e-waste - A growing concern

E-Waste is becoming a big problem. There is a lot of toxic waste in electronic waste, so much that most municipalities will no longer accept it beginning this year for garbage pickup. Many are already issuing tickets for televisions being left at the curb.

E-Waste is simply anything electronic. If it has a circuit board in it, it is E-Waste. Computers, cellphones, FAX machines, printers, VCR's, DVD players, laptops, televisions, game systems; the list goes on and on. Why have valuable space taken up? Drop it off to ecoCOMP and we will recycle it for you. All data will be wiped securely, or physically destroyed, to protect your privacy

With state EPA regulations becoming stricter, many disposal companies will be restricting what they will pick up. Televisions and monitors will need to go to licensed collection sites such as ecoCOMP. ecoCOMP will be able to accept them for recycling, however an alternative you might want to consider at this time is donating any working televisions and monitors to local charities, such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, Savers, and local churches. The advantage is that you are helping those in need, and you are also getting a tax write-off!
Do you have an old computer, or even a new one that you want securely wiped of old data? Whether you are planning on keeping it, giving it to someone else, or recycling it, you should consider having it wiped of all data. Many people think that formatting a hard drive deletes their old data, but that data can be retrieved by identity thieves very easily. Having a drive wiped following Department of Defense standards insures that your private data is kept private. At ecoCOMP, we will wipe the drive following Department of Defense (DOD) standards, or if that isn't enough, we will physically destroy the drive for you. Data wipes are $50 per unit, unless it is being left for recycling, in which case there is no charge. All computers received at ecoCOMP are securely wiped and tested to make certain no data can be retrieved.
